At some point, you may decide to sell your street rod or exotic car. If you decide to use a consignment lot to accomplish this sale, your automobile will most likely be out of your control for an extended period of time—instead, being in the care, custody and control of the consignment lot.
During this extended stay, the garage location of your Select-insured automobile will effectively change. This new garage location almost certainly does not qualify under our Select program Eligibility rules. Coverage from the policy is excluded in this circumstance as our low rates and ironclad value coverage are not designed to cover an automobile in a consignment lot environment.
Help protect yourself by confirming your consignment lot of choice has enough insurance to cover your automobile. Ask to see a Certificate of Insurance. If a certificate cannot be produced, consider moving your Select-insured automobile to a consignment lot that can provide proof of insurance.
If your consignment lot of choice asks you to sign a waiver absolving them from responsibility, we suggest you find another lot with no such requirement. Finding another consignment lot may not be convenient, but the alternative is a lot worse if something goes wrong.
